So as lockdown starts to ease, I’ve decided to share my favourite places to visit, if you want to satisfy your sugar craving!
One of the most popular spots in Derby, Heavenly Desserts offers an indulgent dining experience. With indoor booths and a sheltered outdoor seating area looking out to the city centre street, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a dessert or two! Whether you’re after an indulgent afternoon break from shopping, a catch up with friends or even a romantic date spot, this location is perfect and open up until 11pm.
The menu is perfectly tailored to all occasions with a selection of cheesecakes, sundaes, cookie dough, crepes, and so much more, there is something for everyone! I just recently tasted one of their signature selection Belgian waffles which came smothered in chocolate and lots of strawberries, it was to die for! As well as desserts there is a selection of soft drinks, teas, coffees and cocktails to accompany your dessert.
Bluebells Dairy Farm
Moving away from the city centre now, and out into the fields. Bluebells Dairy Farm is the perfect afternoon out to get some fresh air along with some delicious ice cream. Located on the edge of Derby the farm offers not just a bite to eat but a fun day out for the whole family, especially for those with children as it is a great opportunity to see all the animals on the farm. There is tearooms on site that offer homemade milkshakes and sundaes with the ice cream made fresh on the farm.
You can definitely make a day trip of visiting Bluebells as there is plenty to see and do before you cool off with their famous ice cream.
I would definitely recommend the Devilishly Chocolate luxury artisan ice cream! A much more intense, creamy flavour and a velvety texture as it’s made in small batches onsite. Check out how it’s made here.
Grand Café Caruso
We love family run businesses! We have already mentioned Grand Caruso in one of our previous blog entries and we just can’t get enough. The café is not only popular for their amazing coffee selection but also desserts such as Belgian waffles, and a huge selection of sundaes and milkshakes!
An authentic Italian menu awaits you, the perfect place to take a break whilst you’re in the city!
You can’t go far in Derby before you find a Birds Bakery. The Derby based bakery has a whole chain of shops, since opening in 1919, offering a variety of baked goods, sweet and savoury. Perfect for those on the go that don’t have time to sit down, the bakery has everything from the classic sausage roll to cakes, freshly baked bread and a variety of pastries. And if you do have the time to take a seat, the city centre shop offers a small café seating area with a selection of hot drinks. My go to is a sausage roll and a cream puff (a warning - they can get a bit messy as they are huge). Affordable and great value for money, you’re bound to visit a Birds before you leave Derby
